Distributed and Integrated: A Whole State Cybersecurity Solution
The Ohio Cyber Range Institute (OCRI), a partnership with state government entities, represents a distinct model of how statewide action can improve security in cyberspace. The OCRI integrates, empowers, enables and advances cybersecurity across three missions of education, workforce development, and economic development.
The OCRI facilitates and coordinates the creation and delivery of tailored scalable cybersecurity programming through an ecosystem of designated state Regional Programming Centers (RPCs). This model produces a significant return on investment, leveraging existing expertise across Ohio to reduce unnecessary duplication of effort while enhancing outcomes through strategic coordination.
The OCRI is housed at and powered by the University of Cincinnati through an interdisciplinary partnership among UC's School of Information Technology, School of Public and International Affairs and the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.
SPOTLIGHT
Ohio House Bill 96, effective September 30, 2025, mandates that mandates that political subdivisions in Ohio implement cybersecurity programs.
The new legislation represents an opportunity for OCRI to serve as a key resource through its O-PCI program and expand its partnership with Ohio's government entities in support of employee training, incident response plans, and risk assessments.

Advancing Cybersecurity Across Three Missions
Workforce Development
The Ohio Cyber Range Institute (OCRI) aims to build pathways for adult learners, including veterans and non-degree seeking individuals, to gain access to cybersecurity education opportunities.
Through events such as OCRI Cybersecurity Bootcamp, adults have the opportunity to earn certificates such as CompTIA Network+ and Security+ in short-term programs.
